Cambo set out to prove with one of its first internal projects that it can design and execute highly complex and innovative works in the digital space. Using its previous experience in virtual worlds for children, it took on the challenge of developing a new virtual universe from the ground up, that would allow children from different regions of the world to interact and communicate without language barriers.
OUR ROLE
Every aspect of Lourbo was single-handedly created by Cambo, from the inception of its world to the development of the multilingual translating engine.
CHALLENGE
To create a fun, safe and easy to browse virtual world and at the same time offer a truly multilingual communication tool for children.
SOLUTION
Cambo invested months in designing Lourbo and fine tuning the various learning and entertainment activities. Independent rooms/hubs were set up for each resident, while emphasis was given in the customization options, including sets of different outfits, transportation means, pets etc. For the communication among users, Cambo developed a sophisticated chat engine that translates all the content on the fly to each user’s native language, creating a truly multilingual virtual universe. A “safe mode” allows parents to limit chatting for their children to a set of predetermined phrases (eg “hello” or “want to play?”) and emoticons and includes many other functions, such as the ability to define playing time, monitor sessions etc. Lourbo is currently available in 13 languages, while most of the traffic comes from Europe and the U.S.
